The Month of the Mother Mothers Day traditionally falls in the month of May, that glorious month of blooming things that has always been associated with the Mother. All good Catholics know that May is Mary’s month and before the advent of religion as we understand it, the month of May was dedicated to the Mother of us all. Mother Earth, the Great Mother, God the Mother. And although this aspect of The Mother has been absent from earth for a long while, the times they are a changing. The archetype of the divine feminine or the feminine face of God stands out in cultures throughout history. Called the Great or Grand Mother, she was understood to love all children, all mothers and fathers and to seek the greatest good for the human family. Historically she was revered in many forms, but with the ascent of patriarchic religions, over the last two thousand years she was ignored. According to Sharon McErlane, author of “A Call to Power: the Grandmothers Speak,” now is the time for this, Grand Mother to return to share her wisdom once again. Sharon has chronicled her inner adventures during meditation and shamanic journeying with the Great Council of the Grand Mothers who have come to herald the return to earth of God the Mother. The times in which we are living are marked by violence, hatred and destruction, which, according to the Grandmothers is a direct result of the now depleted energy of Yin on our planet. The greatest task before us is to return to balance and it is through women that this balance will be restored. Women are the natural reservoirs of feminine energy. “As a woman fills with the energy of yin she affects all life around her,” the Grandmothers say. “Everything benefits from a woman who holds this energy. Everything,” they say, “men, animals, plants and rocks will resonate and respond to you. All life needs this energy of nurturance and support. We have come to awaken you to the energy of yin within.” In A Call to Power: the Grandmothers Speak, Sharon relates the Grandmothers’ teachings received over the last ten years. Since then, "empowerment" groups as they are called have formed to help women rekindle the inherent yin within themselves and thereby restore the balance of yin to the planet. This is a grassroots, organic movement with groups meeting all over the world to pass on the Grandmothers’ empowerment of the divine feminine to all who seek it. This Mother's Day presents an opportunity to honor The Mother in all Her forms, whether as the mother of a family, Mother Mary, the Great Council of the Grandmothers, or Mother Earth. As women, all of us are in some way mothers of this world--midwives helping birth the new consciousness emerging on this planet. With the reemergence of the Grand Mother of us all, it is an unprecedented time for women everywhere to step into their power and share their healing presence to a world hungry for this essence. As the Grandmothers say, “The time is now and women must lead. It can be no other way.” You can learn more about the Grandmothers at www.grandmothersspeak.com. There is no fee for this work. Sharon is a licensed marriage and family counselor, and conducts monthly Grandmothers meetings in Laguna Beach, CA where she shares their messages and passes on their empowerment. |
