In October 2024, the residents of Western North Carolina experienced over 2000 landslides, caused by 30 inches of rain from Hurricane Helene. This resulted in the destruction of over 7,000 sites where roads and bridges require repair and more than 100,000 homes and uncounted businesses were destroyed.
